Book Review+Goodies: Heartbitten by Aubrey Rose

Title: Heartbitten

Author: Aubrey Rose

Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance

Release Date: March 2014

SYNOPSIS

Billionaire playboy Robert Chatham is as bloodthirsty as it gets. Snarky and self-obsessed, he has a new girl every day of the week. What the London tabloids don’t know is the reason Robb acts like a lady-killer: to avoid having to kill them. A four-hundred year old vampire, he feeds and moves on, never getting attached to any girl.

Until Liz.

A shy American transplant in the heart of London, Liz is slaving away on her grad school project: working to find a cure for the blood cancer that her younger sister died from years ago. Dead focused on her studies, she’s more interested in the chemistry of hemoglobin than in the chemistry between her and any guy.

Until Robb.

After an old vampire friend comes asking for a favor, Robb has to choose between repaying a life debt and chasing after the one girl who’s broken through his emotional walls. And when Liz stumbles upon evidence that seems to solve the puzzle of his mysterious seclusion, she confronts him in his lab. Only the dark secret she thought she had uncovered turns out to be something even more terrifying.

With a dead body in the trunk of his Porsche and a vial of cancerous blood in the pocket of her lab coat, Robb and Liz are heading for a collision course that will change both of their lives forever…

This book felt like an amazing start to our main characters' story. That's the problem with a story like this that's probably written as a standalone with no predetermined sequel: it just does not give the reader enough. I have to say this book was written very well, but I felt Aubrey Rose only gave us part of the story. There has to be more to this heroine and hero.

Liz is studying blood cancer cures in London. Originally from the States, she's your typical shy, education-driven, young woman. Robb has been living within the same body for over 400 years, since, you know, he's a vampire. When these two meet, it definitely isn't love at first sight. But as their days progress with each other in the chemistry lab, their hearts start to get lovey dovey too.

Overall, I felt this book was just unfinished. I'm not saying that in a bad way; it just seems like the story isn't over. I love when an author leaves you hanging for more when you know there will definitely be more. Without a sequel, I don't think this story has been done justice. But I loved the writing, and I loved our Liz and Robb, but they need a chance to grow in the reader's eyes. I'm giving this book 4 STARS out of 5 STARS. Give us that sequel Ms. Rose! Please!!
