Surrender My Love by Lisa Eugene
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review
Lisa Eugene is becoming an author who I stalk on Facebook because I want to know when her next book will be released. That's how much I like her writing. She knows how to write characters that a romance-lover wants. And her work flows so well.
I love the Washington Memorial Hospital Series! Steal My Heart was great and now we've got Surrender My Love... This story introduces us to Nurse Chloe Bennett. She's a hard worker budgeting her time between taking care of her patients and her mother, who has reverted back to a young child mentally due to an accident many years prior. Chloe cares more for those two aspects in her life than she does for herself, which is so common that I couldn't help but want her to find true love... And in walks the super hot, super sexy, super yummy Brad Markson... okay he more like trampled in. See, Brad is the #1 heart surgeon in the world so he can be a big a**hole almost 95% of the time, but really he's such a softy.
Boy oh boy! The romance left me panting. It was done so well. I really detest cheesy romance novels where you can just see the BS from a mile away. Lisa knows what she's doing when it comes to the hotness levels that arise from this book.
But there is an actual story to this novel. When patients start dying on both Brad and Chloe, lies become truth and the truth becomes lies.. That sounds so cryptic, but it's the way this story works. The two of them must work together to figure out why these patients are dying and who is behind it all. There's so much mystery and suspense and in the end you're going to be like.. "I never saw that coming!!" Lisa always has the bad guys playing the least obvious character, so the whole time you believe it's one character and then POOF it's something you thought you could trust your firstborn child with.
Overall, I'm going to give this 4 STARS out of 5 STARS. Lisa has amazing talent. I hope others read this and take a chance on her work because she is one of a kind. Check out her other book Steal My Heart and Strictly Business.

Book Review: Finding Joy (#2 Joy) by Jenni Moen
Finding Joy by Jenni Moen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
~I received an ARC from Book Enthusiast Promotions in exchange for an honest review~
I had such a wonderful time reading the conclusion to the Joy Series by Jenni Moen. She's a fabulous writer who deserves praise for her work!
Allie and Adam have to figure out how to coexist with each other. Allie feels grateful that Adam can even stand to look at her while Adam wishes Allie wouldn't feel so guilty. It's crazy how these two seem to fit so well if you were to meet them on the street, yet you wouldn't know that one past tragedy could tear them apart forever. Allie will always have a guilty conscience when it comes to Joy, but Adam accepts what happened. He knows he can't change it. I think that's why he accepts Allie for who she is and what she represents.
This book was a nice conclusion, but I would have liked a little more build up to the climax. I don't want to spoil anything, but this book really had some depressing moments and some extremely happy moments. It ranged on so many levels of the spectrum.
Overall, I'm giving this review 4 STARS out of 5 STARS. I recommend everyone reads Remembering Joy first then this book. It's a heartbreaking series, but the characters have so much substance to them that I don't see how you won't fall in love with them, especially the supporting characters. I would love to read a book about supporting characters Carly and Burke... please Jenni do it!!

Book Review: Quintessentially Q by Pepper Winters (Teasers&Giveaway)
Review
Quintessentially Q by Pepper Winters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
Pepper. Pepper. Pepper. You beautiful human being.
Oh lord how I've grown to love this dark, new adult, romance genre. Pepper gets so dark and gritty and I LOVE IT!! She pulls you into the story page by page and I can never get enough.
So, we pick up right where Tears of Tess left off. Q and Tess have to figure out how to get their forever. Tess loves him and she just wants him to open himself up, but Q has a dark past and he craves Tess's blood, literally. Now that should frighten me away but there's something so...hot...about someone amazing as Q wanting to cut you open... Oh god Pepper what have you done to me??
Okay back to this fabulous book. So I don't want to say too much because then it might give away the plot and that would basically ruin the book... But something shocking happens that made me almost throw my phone but I restrained myself! This book brought out a roller coaster of emotion in me. I was ecstatic, depressed, anxious, livid, and content all within this entire book.
If you don't read this book then you are missing something AMAZING!!! Just so you all know the Epilogue almost made me cry happy tears, but I did jump up and down for joy. Pepper made my December with that Epilogue!!
I must give this book 5 STARS out of 5 STARS!! It's just amazing. The writing is flawless, with so much emotion unleashed that at times I had to set the book down for a few minutes because I just couldn't handle it.

Book Review: Elect (#2 Eagle Elite) by Rachel Van Dyken
BLOG TOUR INFO BELOW REVIEW!!... giveaway at bottom!
Elect by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was provided by NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
Rachel Van Dyken is becoming one of my new favorite authors. This girl knows how to write. Ugh I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. I told myself to slow down and not stay up until 2AM reading one of her books again, but when you're gifted with something amazing, you can't always listen to that logical side of your brain!!
Okay, so if you haven't read Elite (my review: http://tarynleesblog.blogspot.com/201...), then this book won't make sense, so I'm going to assume those reading this review have read the first book and know what I'm talking about.
Okay so Trace Alfero and Nixon Abandonato are back. Along with there friends and family Chase, Monroe, and even Phoenix. But things are getting totally messed up and spiralling out of control so quickly. The first book is in Trace's POV, but this one alternates between Nixon, Chase, and Phoenix. At times I would have loved to know what was going on in Trace's head, but I think getting the guys' firsthand accounts and opinions and feelings was perfect. Sometimes authors' have trouble writing in the male POV, but Rachel Van Dyken aced it! I felt so much pain coming from all three characters. There were parts that brought me to tears. This book contained death, a love triangle, and a lot of emotion from every character.
Overall, the book blew me away. This is the kind of book that you can't really give hints as to what happens nor can you explain things without ruining plot twists. I'm giving this book 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS because I cannot get enough!! I can't wait for the next book... so that's my only real hint. I think everyone interested in new adult/suspense/mystery/ass kicking/emotional roller coaster/amazing writing should read this book. But make sure you read Elite first!!

Excerpt
“Let’s
make a pact.” Chase put his hand on my shoulder.
“A
pact?” I sniffled and turned to him. “What kind of pact?”
“One
that’s forever. One that protects people rather than hurts them.”
“How
do we do that?” I was suddenly interested. What if I could make all the hurt go
away? What if I could save everyone!
“We
do this.” Chase pulled out his pocketknife and cut open his hand, then nodded
to me to do the same thing. Without pausing I cut open my hand and handed back
the knife. “Blood brothers. We’re never gonna hurt each other and we’re gonna
save those like your ma, Nixon. Ones who can’t save themselves. We’re going to
protect them.”
“How?”
I watched as the blood dripped from my open palm.
“Rules.”
Chase shrugged. “They keep people safe, right? At least that’s what my mom
says.” He smiled. “We make rules and we start our own club. That way, we don’t
have to listen to anyone but us.”
I liked it. I chewed
on my lower lip. “What do we call ourselves?”
“The
chosen?” Chase offered.
“No,
that sounds lame. We have to sound… more powerful than that.”
My
eyes flickered to the road, and a sign poked into the ground. It said election.
“Elect.” I pointed. “Let’s call ourselves The Elect.” It made sense; after all,
the president was elected, wasn’t he? We weren’t exactly chosen, but we were
making the choice, we were electing ourselves protectors. That’s what we were.
“Who
else can join?” Chase asked.
“Tex
and Phoenix. They’ll want to.” A weight suddenly felt like it was being lifted
off my twelve-year-old shoulders. “Should we shake on it?”
“Yeah.”
Chase smashed his hand against mine as our blood mixed. “No going back, Nixon.”
“No.”
I shook my head. “No going back.”
I pressed my fingers to my temples
and watched, replaying that moment over and over again in my head as the
outline of Chase and Tracey flickered in the moonlight. Would he really do this
to me? After all the shit we’d been through?
I gauged her reaction, hoping that
I would be wrong. Praying to God that Trace would just this once listen to me.
Her eyes flickered with interest for a few brief seconds before she looked down
at the ground.
“Shit.” I waited in the shadows. A
part of me knew this would happen. The part that told me to damn my feelings to
hell and ignore all the warning signs that I’d been seeing. But now it seemed
like it was too late. I stayed, planted where I was, watching, waiting.
“Chase, you can’t…” Trace shook her
head. “You can’t be like this. We can’t do this!”
“We aren’t doing anything,” Chase
said in low tones, reaching for Trace’s hand. “Don’t you?” He looked directly
at me, although all he saw was a shadow. I knew I was well hidden. “Don’t you
feel the same way?”
Trace jerked her hand away from
Chase’s. “It doesn’t matter what I feel. It’s not about me, Chase.”
“But it is.” Chase reached for her
again. This time her hand grasped his in such an intimate embrace I thought I
was going to vomit all over the ground. The outside air was cold as hell as
little pieces of ice tried to find their way into my wool coat.
“It isn’t.” Trace sighed. “It never
was.”
Chase jerked her toward him. She
fell against his chest and looked up into his eyes. “What are you doing?”
Chase sighed. “What I should have
done a long time ago.” He grabbed the back of her head and pulled her in for a
kiss. Their lips touched.
I had to look away.
The only sound in the night was
that of my soft footsteps as I walked away… leaving my heart in broken pieces
where I’d last stood. She was lost to me; it wasn’t even the Sicilians that had
taken her, but my best friend.
A gunshot rang out loud and clear
in the night air. I turned back around just in time to see Trace collapse into
Chase’s arms.

Book Review: Yearning Absolution by Rachael Orman
Yearning Absolution by Rachael Orman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
~I received an ARC from Book Enthusiast Promotions in exchange for an honest review~
I didn't read Yearning Devotion (the first book), so this book was a bit confusing at times, but I was still able to follow along pretty well.
It's a much different love triangle. Basically we've got Gwen who has been in a relationship with McKayla for ten years. Then while they are together, Gwen meets Cole, who she works for at a fashion design company. Gwen ends up entering into a relationship with Cole, which means we've got Gwen with a boyfriend and girlfriend. A little confusing? I was at first until we find out that Gwen was also kept captive for 5 years by two abusive brother. And the only living brother, now that Gwen has murdered the other brother, is after Gwen again. So now, Gwen is juggling two relationships, a new job as her own designer where her boyfriend is the CEO, a jealous girlfriend, and a psycho ex-kidnapper? Piece of cake? ... Ya right!
This book was a nice try at being a somewhat suspenseful romance, but it lacked the suspense, the angst. I wanted more. I wanted to see Richard, the brother coming back to kill (or torture) Gwen, to attack her more than once. I know we should feel worried about Gwen's safety, but even she didn't worry all that much, so when Richard finally showed himself, I just couldn't sympathize with her fears. If you know that someone is out there hunting you down, then don't walk into alley ways or by yourself.
Overall, I think it's a decent book. Definitely not a favorite, but it's not something that I think readers will detest. Some of you may even enjoy it! I think the first book would have made more sense to read, but sometimes we don't have the time. I'm really happy that I was still able to understand what was going on in this book by the halfway point even though I had no idea what was happening in the beginning chapters. That's always a good sign.

Book Review: Elite (#1 Eagle Elite) by Rachel Van Dyken
Elite by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well that was amazing! This book didn't make a whole lot of sense at the beginning because the author didn't want to give away the whole plot from the start, but there was just something so mysterious about Eagle Elite. So that's probably why I stayed up until 2AM to finish reading it!!
Trace Rooks wins the lottery and is set to attend Eagle Elite in Chicago. She's a farm girl from Wyoming and isn't used to the big city. She thought she was your average everyday girl wanting to get a decent education to support her grandfather, the only family she believes she has left.
Cue the super hot, super yummy, super douchey Nixon Abandonato. He is the sole reason that the majority of the women race loves a bad boy. The only problem: he's a total a** to Trace!! But it's because she doesn't remember. She doesn't know who he is. She's been brainwashed to believe something just far enough from the truth to be believable. And when I say brainwashed I don't mean for it to sound so negative. It was just her Grandpa who wanted to protect her.
I don't want to go too in depth because I don't want to spoil anything for anybody. But let me just say that the way the plot twists from one to the next was pretty cool. I was kind of expecting what happened to happen but then there are so many things that can take place in a book that you've gotta keep your mind wide open.
I think Rachel Van Dyken is a brilliant young/new adult romance writer. She's on my top 10 favorite authors right now. She's just got this super creative writing style that pulls you in.
Overall, I think this book is worth reading for anyone interested in a little bit of young love mixed with some dangerous people. I couldn't go to bed until I finished it... It was that good! There is a sequel and I'm so pumped for it!! It's called Elect .
